Slowly, But Surely….

I’m about halfway through my stash now. I’ve been re-skeining everything, then soaking it in boiling hot water for a minimum of 40 minutes. So far, everything looks good, and I’ve yet to find any more signs of wee little beasties nibbling away on my wool stash… but this doesn’t mean that I won’t be thorough. I will treat all fibers as if they have eggs imbedded in them. I’m determined to wipe out the wool moth species to the best of my ability!

The whole washing process has my family raising their eyebrows at me. They are questioning my sanity, I know it. I have a nice expandable drying rack, and it’s sitting on top of the table in the kitchen. Freshly washed skeins adorn it much like ornaments on a tree, and my high velocity fan is going full blast to fluff and dry all the lovely woolie goodness…..

Spurg has noticed all the skeins….. Spurg has commented I have enough to open my own shop and make a fortune. (Not really, but it’s not like he knits and would know that my stash is very modest by most accounts. I could easily use up all of my yarn in less than a year, if I wanted to and if I didn’t buy anymore. Like that’s really going to happen.)

Once the skeins are dried, they will be labled, bagged in ziplock and sealed in rubbermaid bins. Once I get through all the wool, I will, of course, repackage everything as I have plans to sew up some bags with zipper closures. I am also armed with some cedar oil spray. Before one single handknit goes back in my dresser, it will be vacumned out, sprayed with cedar oil, and new drawer liners put in.

Having said all this, I’m beginning to wonder if my family is right. Maybe I have kind of lost it. Maybe the whole wool moth experience has finally sent me over the edge…….

Or maybe I was there already!

  1. You have been tagged. This is kind of a fun one.

  2. Well I will tell you that your over the edge is taking me with you! I am going through & putting all yarns in sealed bags. Period. I don’t want to have to wait until I see little signs they have nested in my woolly goodness! So stash reduction, photos of said stash and organization is my goal for the first month of this year! Thanks for the inspiration in your madness. ;o)

  3. If you’re there… I think you have company!!

  4. Start out the year with a clean stash! YIPEEEE!!!
