The Gift Of Friendship
Yes. I know what you are all waiting anxiously for… but I need to say something first. Over the last 24 hours, I have received a reaffirmation of the most wonderful gifts that can ever be given. Comments and private messages of love, friendship and support have been pouring in and I still appreciate each and every one of them and each and every one of you.
I needed to say this before I reveal the “secret project” that I have been working on because there is a bit of humorous irony going on. I have had a name for the “secret project” almost since the moment I cast on the first stitch. I wasn’t sure about the name, I even thought it might be a little corny, but after the last 24 hours, it seems more appropriate than ever. Almost like someone or something was trying to tell me something since the name popped into my head.
You see, I named it “The Gift Of Friendship”. So if you hear me chuckling a little as you download the pattern, you’ll completely understand. Especially when you read the reason behind the name. I hope you like it because it is for all of you. Enjoy!

Really pretty! I like the stitch patttern.
Very lovely, and perfect for the “what do I do with it” hank of Alpaca Cloud I just came into.
It’s lovely!! I have just some perfect pale grey alpaca cloud that was a gift from a secret pal friend that seems just like the right thing to make it out of - yarn from an unknown friend to knit a scarf from an unknown friend!!
thank you!!
It is just beautiful! I printed the pattern and I happen to have some lace weight alpaca that might be good for this!
I found your blog and this post through WordPress Tag Surfer. This post nearly made me cry. The scarf is so beautiful and it is true, how the spaces and clusters resemble the life of a friendship. Very inspiring.
The scarf is gorgeous Chris! I was at a yarn store last week with my mom and she was fingering the lace-weight scarves on display. I knew I had to knit her one and now I have the perfect pattern! Thanks sweetie!
It is beautiful, I have 425 yards of lovely (at least I think so) hand spun yarn that is crying out to be used. I spun it lace weight, so it will be perfect for your pattern. Thanks, Diana
What a beautiful pattern. Thank you for sharing.

Just came home from a quilt show in Columbus, Ohio, where a knit convention was also in session. (I was in heaven!) Found a lovely shaded laceweight merino yarn, and bought two colorways just to have. This morning I decided to look for a pattern for a shawl for my dear friend. Her birthday will be here soon, and she was lamenting that she needs a shawl to wear with dresses. This will be perfect, and the title certainly fits the theme! Thank you so much!
I just found your blog. You have many articles of interest to me.
Thank you for the friendship scarf pattern. My DD, who works part time in a yarn shop to support her habit, gave me some different luxury yarns from the sale bin for Christmas and birthday. I have enough of one of the yarns to make that scarf for me. Depending upon length of time to accomplish, this could be a wonderful gift for my “friends!”
Also, I am interested in trying out your meat pie. It sounds and photographs delicious.
I also view with interest your opinions and suggestions on sewing. As my DD and I are interested in some new skirts for which I have bought the patterns and have a fabric stash, I must get on with the sewing.
I have too much fabric and fiber and too many patterns and not enough time. My work, which helps to support my habit, gets in the way.

Wow. You are one amazing knitter, as well as poetic. I’ve recently taken up knitting after a 20 year hiatus, and I can’t begin to imagine completing a scarf like yours.
I wrote a poem on my blog about knitting, if you’d like to check it out: http://mariacristina.wordpress.com/2007/07/12/a-song-of-knitting/
Christine,
I found your blog via the MysteryStole 3. I love your scarf pattern. You bought your yarn at Mannings outside East Berlin, PA?? I grew up near there and still go to the shop. There Knitin is August 11 and I am planning on going. I have a question about your pattern. It says to follow pattern, but there is also a chart which looks different than pattern. Which do I follow?
