Oh S*@T. The Moths Aren’t Gone…

Forgive the colorful title. Since the kids were being fairly good today, I decided to give the wool stash a good look through. It seems those little buggers are being stubborn and are back (there is a chance that I missed a few eggs in the first go through). But I think this time I have gotten the infestation and I am getting meaner than before with them. I’ve got honest to goodness cedar oil this time to spray the area with. Plus, since I had gotten everything before, this was pretty contained this time. It did cost me 2 fleeces, but it’s not so bad. Both the fleeces weren’t that great (read tons of vm, second cuts and fleece from what must have been an ill sheep as the fibers kept shattering whenever I tried to work with it.) So, in a way, the little buggers actually did me a favor. I also didn’t see any moths/larve, so I’m hoping they were still dormant from the winter.

They have also inspired me to do some serious culling of clutter and some deep spring cleaning around here. It’s day one and I am exhausted from going through all the boxes that I had stored under my stairs (at least I know that I will sleep like a rock tonight). I’ve gotten rid of half the stuff, it will be making it’s way to Goodwill tomorrow morning. I usually have to do a heavy duty deep cleaning a minimum of 6 times a year as it seems like there is an endless breeding ground for dust. You can dust one day (I do it with my Dyson so that the dust doesn’t just get stirred back up and settle down again a few hours later) but, it’s there nearly as thick by the next day. I remember when I moved to this town how much I notice how dusty everything gets compared to when I lived in the Bay Area. It was such a huge difference that it actually shocked me.

Another thing that’s different about this town is Easter Vacation (or Spring Break as they now call it.) Most of you who have children had them home this week. It doesn’t work that way here. Nick is off as of tomorrow and doesn’t return until a week from Monday. I hope I can survive! (Kidding! Nick has actually been very mellow over the past week, so much so that I was actually very surprised that he is handling every thing so well. Not just every day stuff, but even the big break-up his girlfriend did on him.)

Hopefully, all of this won’t keep me away from the computer too much, but if my blogging is a little irregular, at least you will know why. If you don’t hear from me before, I hope that everyone has a fabulous weekend!

  1. I guess I’m lucky in that I have a deep freeze – everything new goes in there for a few days before it gets put in with the main stash. I’m scared to death of moths…I hope you’ve gotten all of yours taken care of!

  2. Gee, I had better go check my stash!! I have never had a moth problem but then again I have tons more wool around here than even 2 years ago. I think you’ve inspired me to some spring cleaning myself!

  3. I’d be saying more colorful words than that if I found moths in my stash! Glad to hear Nick is doing well. Have a wonderful Easter!

  4. Good luck with Spring Break! Caleb goes back to school on Monday but he’s had a cold all week so we haven’t had too much, “I’m bored” around here.

Hope you kill the little bastards this time! (The moths, I mean.)

  5. Sierra was off for the whole month of March. She just went back this week and now has Friday off. Next year she will go traditional. I haven’t encountered any moth bugs in my yarn, luckily. I do have carpet beetles, but they are never in my yarn. I hear you about the dirt. It is never ending.

  6. Have a very happy Easter girl! Huggs!!!
